Do you notice any cracking noises? You might hear buzzing, crackling, whooshing, or other noises in your ears if you have tinnitus, a disorder. Here are some details.
Have you ever heard thumping, buzzing, or crackling noises that seem to come from nowhere? If this is taking place with your hearing aids, you might need to come in for an adjustment. However, if you don’t wear hearing aids, those sounds most likely originate from within your ears. You shouldn’t become anxious as a result. There is more to the ear than meets the eye, or in this case, the ear, as we frequently think of our ears in terms of what we can see on the exterior. Here are some indicators of what these typical tinnitus noises may be telling you about your hearing if you do happen to hear them. It’s a good idea to see us if any of these noises are chronic, painful, or otherwise impairing your quality of life even if the majority are safe (and transient).
WHAT’S THE REASON BEHIND THE SNAP, CRACKLE, AND POP IN MY EAR?
One thing is certain: it’s not Rice Krispies. You might hear popping or crackling sounds when the pressure in your ears fluctuates, whether it’s due to altitude, immersion in water, or simply yawning. The eustachian tube, a tiny component of your ear, is what generates these noises. These mucus-lined tubes open up when the pressure in them equalizes, enabling air and mucus to flow through.
Your eustachian tubes are a naturally occurring system, but on rare occasions, such as when you have a cold, an ear infection, or allergies that are inflaming your body, they may literally become blocked by the extra mucus you are producing (remember, your ears, nose, and throat are all linked). When decongestant sprays, chicken noodle soup, or antibiotics are ineffective, more serious instances may necessitate surgery. If your persistent ear discomfort and pressure don’t go away, you should schedule a consultation with us.
WHAT MIGHT THIS MEAN IF MY EAR IS FEELING VIBRATIONS?
In some situations, ear vibrations are a blatant sign of tinnitus. Tinnitus is a problem where people experience hearing noises in their ears that don’t come from the outside world. It typically manifests as a ringing in the ears and ranges in intensity from barely noticeable to intolerable.

IS THE RINGING IN MY EARS CAUSED BY TINNITUS?
Again, if you wear hearing aids, you might hear this kind of noise for a variety of reasons, such as the volume being too high or that your batteries are running low. But excessive earwax may also be the cause of these noises.
Excess earwax is generally known to itch, make hearing more challenging, and even carry a risk of ear infection, but how can it produce sounds? These sounds can be produced if the wax is resting against your eardrum and inhibiting it.
In addition, excessive, persistent buzzing or ringing is a sign of tinnitus. Tinnitus includes even ringing caused by excessive ear wax. Tinnitus is not a sickness or disorder in and of itself; it is often a sign of something else that is wrong with your health. Your tinnitus may be brought on by a simple buildup of earwax, but it may also be related to more serious conditions like despair and anxiety. Let us assist you in identifying the underlying cause of your tinnitus so you can receive treatment and relief.
MY EARS ARE RUMBLING, WHAT IS THAT?
This specific symptom was made up. There are instances when you will experience a deep rumble in your ears after yawning particularly loudly. Your body is trying to muffle the noise you’re making, and the rumbling is your ears’ tiny muscles clenching to do that. Your own voice, chewing, and yawning are a few of these sounds.
Because they occur frequently and are so near your ears, injury to your ears could result from a lack of these muscles. In extremely rare circumstances, the tensor tympani, one of these muscles, can be deliberately managed to produce this rumbling. In some cases, people have tonic tensor tympani syndrome, or TTTS, which results in tympani muscular spasms. TTTS is frequently experienced by those who have tinnitus or hyperacusis, which is a sensitivity to specific frequencies of sound.
WHAT ABOUT A WHIRRING SOUND?
Have you ever had a flutter in your arms and legs after working out? The fluttering you hear in your ears is the same as the fluttering that often results in a muscular spasm. Tensor tympani and stapedius muscles in your middle ear are both affected by middle ear myoclonus, sometimes referred to as MEM tinnitus. Since it is a muscle ailment, muscle relaxants and anticonvulsants are typically used to address this condition at first. If the drugs are ineffective, inner ear surgery to treat the problem is an alternative, albeit outcomes differ from operation to treatment.
WHY DO MY EARS DRUM, PUMP, AND PULSE SO MUCH?
It’s most possible that you are correct if you occasionally feel as though your heartbeat is pulsating inside your ears. Your ears will be able to hear your pulse if your heart rate is high due to a strenuous workout, a stressful job interview, or a medical problem like high blood pressure because some of the body’s major veins are located quite close to them.
Other people can hear most types of tinnitus, although pulsatile tinnitus can be heard by them. We can listen in on your ears and hear the thumping and pulsating, therefore it’s not difficult for us to diagnose pulsatile tinnitus. While it’s perfectly normal to suffer pulsatile tinnitus when your heart is pounding, you shouldn’t have to deal with it constantly.
It would probably be wise to visit for a consultation if you do regularly feel this thumping or pulsing. Pulsatile tinnitus, like other types of tinnitus, is a symptom of another illness rather than a sickness, so if it persists, it may point to a health issue, such as high blood pressure. As pulsatile tinnitus can be a sign of heart disease, it’s crucial to let us know about your past experiences with heart health. However, as soon as your pulse rate returns to normal after a good workout (or a good scare), you should cease hearing the pulsing or pumping.

WHAT’S THAT CLICKING NOISE ABOUT?
The Eustachian tubes, as already mentioned, maintain equilibrium in the pressure inside your ears. When you have muscle spasms in the muscles close to the Eustachian tubes, repeated clicking is a common symptom (like in the roof of your mouth). For identical reasons, swallowing can also cause clicking. The Eustachian tube is what is making the noises you are hearing. When the mucus in their head drains, some people claim to hear a clicking sound. A fracture in one of the tiny bones in your ear may, in extremely rare circumstances, be the cause of chronic clicking.
MY EARS ARE POPPING, DOES IT MEAN I HAVE AN INFECTION?
An ear infection can occasionally make you feel as though your ears are full, and the swelling may even cause your ears to explode. Popping in your ear may indicate a serious infection. You should make an appointment right away if you experience any further symptoms, such as fever, ear pain, or a sudden loss of hearing. In the days after an infection or cold, your ears may occasionally pop as mucus drains from your head.
